Raoul-Eugène LAMOURDEDIEU
(Fauguerolles, 1877 - Pierrefonds, 1953)
« Sculptor and medals engraver, Lamourdedieu produced a limited animal corpus, essentially composed of small birds in bronze, and feathers outlined in gold and silver.” (Ophélie Ferlier, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nantes).
The Turkey was Exposed at the Salon d’Automne in 1926 under the number 1377 bis and was kept in Pierre Hebey’s collection until now and appears for the first time on the market. The stylisation of shapes, the different patinas and the silver highlights make this piece precious, in the Art Déco style. All realism is eliminated by the sculptor: “The slavish imitation […] of an animal […] would give meagre shapes, unequal, without character or synthesis.” (Lamourdedieu, 1941).
Lamourdedieu’s artworks are conserved in public collections, in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs of Paris, the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Nantes, the Musée de la Ville de Mont-de-Marsan; and also in private collections, such as the French actor Gérard Depardieu’s collection, who owns a stone sculpture untitled La Gardienne de dindons.
