Charles DELHOMMEAU

(Paris, 1883 - 1970)

Delhommeau was born in Paris on March the 21st 1883, the early part of his career was devoted to the traditional art of portraiting busts, heads and bas-reliefs. Later he turned to his subject matter, exclusively to animal sculpture. His works as an Animalier include studies of the Panther, the Gazelle, the Serval and other figures of wild animals. His work was exhibited at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Delhommeau produced a small but highly sensitive collection of Animalier sculpture which contributes to the transition of this genre from the nineteenth century towards the modern sensibilities.
