Godefroid Devreese was a Belgian sculptor specialized in horses, he followed the same path as his father’s at the Académie de Courtrai. Thereafter, he moved to Bruxelles in order to continue his training at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Bruxelles from 1881 to 1886. From 1885, he regularly participated at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He won the second Prix de Rome, his career was rewarded by many prizes and honours. He was a talented and verbose sculptor and medal-maker, creator of many monuments in collaboration with Victor Horta. His works of art are positioned in many French and Belgian museums such as the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Bruxelles and the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. His monumental public works can be found today in his natal city, Courtrai, Scharbeek and Bruxelles (the sculptures of La Maison du Cornet on the Grand Place).
