Pierre Lenordez was an animal sculptor and he opened his atelier in Caen. He regularly participated to the Salon des Aristes Français from 1855 to 1877. While working, he was named professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Caen and he had Arthur Jacques Leduc as a student. Lenordez was passioned by horses and he mainly sculpted thoroughbred horses and important winners of horse races, Gladiateur, winner of the Derby d’Epson in 1865, Vermout, French thoroughbred who won in 1864 the Grand Prix of Paris in Longchamp. His style is characterized by the peculiarity of its details.
