Belgian sculptor from the School of Antwerp, Raymond de Meester is a self-taught artist. He used to spend whole days in the zoo of Antwerp, where he worked with Collin (1886-1962) and Van Ryswyck (1911-1958), and he used to have his sketchbook always at hand. De Meester was very careful regarding the finishing of his artworks, he realized himself his patinas and the chasing. As a recognized animal sculpture, he got numerous prizes during his career thanks to his works, as for instance the Sculpture First Price Chapman in the United-States in 1969. The kingdom of Belgium, his home country, commissioned him to create official medals for breed competitions. He also realized monumental works in Tervuren, Hisingen and in Malmoë, in Sweden. Numerous museums preserve some of his artworks, in Belgium, France, Germany, Mexico, etc.
