Jean JOACHIM
(1905 - Paris, 1990)
Jean Joachim Supéry also known as Jean Joachim, was a practician of Pompon. In 1922 he realized l’Ours blanc in marble of de Carrare and the one in de Lens stone, requested by the Luxembourg museum.
Jean Joachim learnt how to sculpt in taille directe in the atelier of his father who was a sculptor and then at the National School of Fine Arts. One of his first works of art was a gorilla slightly bigger than natural size, cut in the granite and heavy circa three tonnes and a half, made in 1960-61, and presented at the Grand Palais in 1980 at the Salon des Artistes Animaliers. He was a teacher at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Appliqués and at the Ecole des Métiers d’Art and sculptor in the atelier, he shared with his brother, in rue Le Planquet in Malakoff, in front of the founder Rudier.
He received many public commands and he realized a monumental sculpture for the institution Notre-Dame in Malakoff. He participated to many exhibitions, particularly with the groups of animal artists and he received in 1975, the prize Edouard-Marcel Sandoz.
The influence of his master is evident in his works of art, but Joachim did not only achieve the simplification and the roundness of forms from Pompon, the details of the peak and the tail show a work of art that oscillates between formal simplification and stylization.
